Grant County Man Arrested for Sharing Explicit Images of Minor
A man from Grant County, Washington, has been arrested on charges of sharing explicit images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The arrest came after an investigation by the Othello Police Department, which began in Adams County in May of this year.
Detective Steven Perez, who led the investigation, revealed the case originated from a CyberTip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, indicating that child sexual abuse material had potentially been shared through a cellphone application.
Authorities were able to trace these explicit images back to the suspect, 21-year-old Angel Garcia-Lopez of Quincy. Garcia-Lopez was subsequently apprehended and taken into custody on August 22.
Throughout the three-month investigation, Detective Perez and his team were able to ascertain more information about the identity of the child depicted in the images. It was determined that the abused minor was not local to Grant County.
Angel Garcia-Lopez now faces serious charges, including First-Degree Dealing in Depictions of a Minor Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct and First-Degree Possession of a Minor Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct, both of which are class B felonies. He has been booked into the Grant County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Moses Lake Police Department provided valuable assistance to the investigation and subsequent arrest of Garcia-Lopez.
