Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle, real name Ermias Ashgedom, has been killed in a shooting outside his clothing store in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon. Two other men were shot in the incident at Marathon Clothing in South Los Angeles.

The rapper, popular for his community contributions, was shot multiple times in the parking lot at Marathon Clothing on West Slauson Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The shooting occurred at around 3:25 p.m.

Los Angeles police lieutenant, Chris Martinez, confirmed that two other men were injured in the incident. One man is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital, while the third man declined medical assistance.

The suspect, described as a male black, remains at large. LAPD South Bureau Homicide is leading the investigation to locate the suspect and any other individuals involved. The area around Slauson & Crenshaw is expected to experience road closures and heavy traffic for several hours.

Nipsey Hussle’s music career soared with his debut studio album, Victory Lap, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album earlier this year. Beyond his musical achievements, the rapper made significant contributions to his community. Despite his previous affiliation with the Rollin’ 60s street gang as a teenager, Hussle became a community organizer and played a pivotal role in the Destination Crenshaw arts project, aimed at celebrating African-American artistic accomplishments through an open-air museum.

Los Angeles Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff revealed that he and Police Chief Michael Moore were scheduled to meet with Nipsey Hussle and representatives from Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s entertainment agency and production company, on Monday. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways in which Hussle could help combat gang violence and support youth initiatives.

Following the news of his tragic death, tributes have poured in, honoring Nipsey Hussle’s legacy and his dedication to uplifting his community.

Customers, fans, and fellow artists alike are devastated by the loss of such a talented and influential figure. Nipsey Hussle will be remembered not only as a gifted rapper but also as someone who used his platform to make a meaningful impact. The specifics surrounding the motive for the shooting remain unclear, as the investigation continues.
