Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has appealed to the freight forwarder industry to operate transparently and honestly in their business dealings. Goyal believes this will encourage the development of international trading and to help ensure that this happens, he has urged members within the industry to become whistle-blowers if they notice any fraudulent practices. Furthermore, he also suggested that the members should advise their clients to implement honest practices as well. Speaking about the issue, Goyal stated: “In our effort to clean up the system, we need your support…we wish to have a system where we can trust you blindly…Become transparent and honest in your business”. At the FFFAI event, which he was attending, CBIC Chairman Vivek Johri concurred. He said the industry must do proper KYC of their clients so they are aware of their background, otherwise fraud would become rife. Johri also requested that they maintain strict internal controls, and work to ease processes for both exports and imports.
