The Indian government’s revenue collection from spectrum usage charges decreased by more than half to Rs 811 crore, while telecom operators’ adjusted gross income increased by 14% to Rs 62,904 crore in the December quarter of 2022, compared to the same period last year. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reported that telecom providers paid Rs 1,760 crore as spectrum usage charge in the December 2021 quarter. The total adjusted gross revenue (AGR) of telecom service providers was Rs 55,151 crore during the same period. Reliance Jio topped the market with the highest AGR of Rs 22,586.32 crore, while Bharti Airtel recorded the largest growth of 26.27% on a year-on-year basis with an AGR of Rs 18,290 crore. The gross revenue of telecom service providers increased by 26.5% YoY to Rs 88,166 crore during the reported quarter from Rs 69,695 crore in December 2021. The blended average revenue per user (ARPU) in India increased by 23.63% YoY to Rs 141.4/month, indicating their growth.
