Governor Umaru Bago has inaugurated the 16-man governing board of the newly-approved Abdulkhadir Kure University of Education in Minna in Niger State. The board, headed by Prof. Mohammed Yahaya as the pro chancellor, comprises prominent academics who will lead the institution to new heights. At the inauguration ceremony held at the government house in Minna, Governor Bago urged the board to hit the ground running and ensure the university attains a high level of excellence. He reassured the board members that funding for the institution had already been secured, paving the way for a successful take-off.

Governor Bago also revealed that a committee had been established to review the expansion plans and development strategies for the university. He emphasized the need to transform the institution into a comprehensive university, offering a wide range of fields such as medicine, aviation, science and technology, and climate change studies.

To attract more students to the university, Governor Bago announced the introduction of a scholarship scheme for students from public schools who achieve five credits, including English and Mathematics, in a single sitting. This initiative aims to provide an opportunity for talented students to pursue higher education at the Abdulkhadir Kure University of Education.

In his statement, Governor Bago reiterated the establishment of two additional universities in Niger State. The University of Agriculture and Climate Change will be located in Mokwa, while the University of Technology and Innovation will be situated in Zungeru. These universities will further enhance educational opportunities in the state and contribute to its overall development.

Speaking on behalf of the university, Prof. Mohammed Yahaya, the Pro Chancellor, disclosed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had approved all 41 programs submitted by the institution. However, only 14 programs will be implemented in the upcoming 2023/2024 academic session, which is set to commence soon. The NUC has also granted a 3,000 admission quota, which has been communicated to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

With the inauguration of the governing board and the necessary approvals in place, the Abdulkhadir Kure University of Education is well on its way to becoming a center of excellence in Niger State. The commitment of the state government towards the development of the university will ensure a bright future for students and contribute to the overall growth of the education sector in the state.
