Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has exceeded expectations in his second term, making significant advancements in promoting teachers and improving infrastructure. Despite early doubts regarding the governor’s performance in his second term, he has proven critics wrong through his dedicated approach to governance.
According to Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Governor Makinde has already demonstrated his commitment to surpassing his previous achievements. In just five months, 1,174 teachers have been promoted to level 17 as a result of the governor’s policy of decoupling promotions from the availability of vacancies. This move emphasizes Makinde’s dedication to the welfare of teachers and the education sector.
In addition to prioritizing education, Governor Makinde’s administration has made significant strides in infrastructure development. The opening of the 34-kilometer Oyo-Iseyin road and the successful relocation of 1,533 undergraduates from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology to the newly-established Faculty of Agriculture and Renewal Science at Iseyin are testament to the governor’s commitment to providing better transportation and educational facilities.
Furthermore, the administration has allocated over four billion Naira to the Strategic Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) program, aimed at assisting the poorest members of society affected by the recent fuel subsidy removal. Additionally, the Oyo State Agricultural Credit Corporation received one billion Naira to support farmers across the state. The governor has also increased the workers’ wage bill by 2.2 billion Naira per month, demonstrating his dedication to ensuring fair compensation for workers and pensioners.
Governor Makinde’s determination to deliver on his promises was evident during a recent leadership retreat where he charged his cabinet members to submit a two-year work-plan within the month. He emphasized the importance of performance and warned that excuses or stories would not be acceptable to the people of Oyo State.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) recognized the professional manner in which the government’s activities are disseminated and expressed interest in collaborating with the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation for better results. NAN’s Ibadan Zonal Office team, led by Mr. Olawale Alabi, was received by the ministry’s top officials, further highlighting the potential for enhanced information dissemination.
