Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed admits to enduring sleepless nights leading up to the Supreme Court judgment that confirmed his reelection as the state governor. He commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Supreme Court, emphasizing the importance of selecting a competent successor for Bauchi State.
Governor Mohammed addressed his supporters at the government house after a victory rally, revealing the anxiety he experienced before the court’s verdict. He attributed his restless nights to a group of former state leaders who, he claimed, spread falsehoods about him at the Presidency in an attempt to undermine his mandate.
Expressing gratitude for prevailing against the alleged conspiracy, the governor stated, They told the Presidency that I am a problem and will give them more problems if I remain the governor. But, to the glory of God, we did everything possible, and we emerged victorious at the end of the day.
Governor Mohammed highlighted the attempts to create conflicts with Vice President Kashim Shettima, a close friend, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appreciated the initiatives taken by the state. However, he commended President Tinubu for refraining from interfering in the judicial process.
The governor praised the Supreme Court for delivering justice in all the appeals before it and emphasized that Friday’s judgments had restored the image of the judiciary as the last hope of the common man in the country.
Looking ahead, Governor Mohammed stressed the importance of selecting a competent successor at the end of his tenure. He asserted that only individuals with well-known roots from any part of the state would be allowed to hold the governorship. The focus, he said, is on finding someone capable of surpassing the achievements of the current administration.
Governor Mohammed’s disclosure of his sleepless nights and appreciation for President Tinubu and the Supreme Court sheds light on the challenges he faced during the electoral process. As Bauchi State moves forward, the governor’s emphasis on a competent successor highlights the need for continued progress and development in the state.
