Google Workspace is expanding its eSignatures support, moving out of alpha testing into a beta phase. This development will make electronically signing legal documents more convenient for users. Previously, users had to navigate different browser tabs to complete the signing process, but with the introduction of eSignatures support in Google Docs and Drive, that will change.

Google Workspace Individual subscribers now have direct access to the open beta, while administrators of select Google Workplace accounts can sign up for the beta via Google’s request form. This wider availability comes just over a year after Google initially introduced eSignatures in June 2022.

Users with access to the eSignature feature will be able to request signatures, track pending signatures, and view completed contracts. The feature also allows for the addition of form fields for full signatures and initials, as well as an auto-fill option for the date signed box. Google has also teased upcoming features, including audit trails, multiple signatures on a single document, signatures from non-Gmail users, and the ability to add eSignatures to PDF files.

Google has begun rolling out eSignature support for Google Workspace Individual users since August 8, but it may take up to 15 days for the feature to appear for everyone. As for Workspace customers, they can now apply for the beta, and approval and activation of the feature will occur over the next several weeks.

Unfortunately, there is no update on whether this feature will be available for consumer accounts, so those without a Workspace plan will need to explore alternative methods for capturing electronic signatures, such as using a PDF editor.

Google’s expansion of eSignatures support will undoubtedly offer users greater convenience and streamline the process of signing legal documents online. With additional features in the pipeline, Google continues to enhance its collaborative tools and productivity suite.
