Google is reportedly working on an artificial intelligence (AI) writing and editing feature for Chromebooks. The project, which is associated with codenames like Orca, Mako, and Manta, aims to enhance the text editing experience on ChromeOS. When editing text, users will have the option to select Orca from the right-click menu, which will then display the Mako user interface in a bubble overlay on the screen.

The AI feature, known as Mako, will have three primary functions. Firstly, it will be capable of requesting rewrites of specific text, potentially utilizing AI-generated suggestions. Secondly, it can offer preset text queries as example prompts for certain writing styles. Lastly, Mako can seamlessly insert revised text into the original text, preserving the user’s progress.

On the other hand, Google is also planning to introduce a new feature for Android devices that will allow users to link their various devices together, similar to Apple’s Continuity feature. This feature could enable call switching between connected devices during phone calls and internet sharing for setting up personal hotspots across multiple devices.

The AI writing and editing feature for Chromebooks, along with the Android device linking capability, showcases Google’s continued efforts to enhance user experiences across its ecosystem. These advancements aim to streamline the text editing process on ChromeOS while providing seamless connectivity between Android devices.

As Google works on these developments, users can look forward to more efficient and integrated experiences, making tasks like writing and multitasking across devices more convenient. However, it is important to note that these features are still under development, and their official release dates are yet to be announced.

Overall, Google’s efforts to leverage AI technology for improved writing and editing experiences, combined with its pursuit of enhanced connectivity across Android devices, signify the tech giant’s commitment to innovation and user satisfaction. As these features come to fruition, users can expect a more seamless and efficient digital environment that caters to their evolving needs and preferences.
