Google Tests Animated Emojis Feature on Messages

Google is continuing to enhance its messaging app, Google Messages, by testing out a new feature that brings animated emojis to conversations. The animated emojis will add a touch of motion and liveliness to standard emojis, which are typically static. However, there is a slight catch – the animations only work when a single emoji is sent, without any accompanying text or additional emojis.

This feature is reminiscent of how animated emojis function on WhatsApp. For example, if a heart emoji is sent individually, it will beat animatedly. But if text is added to the heart emoji or multiple heart emojis are sent, the animations will not appear in the chat.

A Reddit user named BruthaBeige was the first to spot this feature, sharing a screenshot that showcases how different mood emojis, like weeping and Rolling On the Floor Laughing (ROFL), animate. Others, like Android user Mishaal Rahman, received a tip about the feature and confirmed its existence. However, it appears that the animated emojis feature is currently only available in certain regions and not accessible to all users.

In addition to the animated emojis, Google is also making improvements to viewing RCS (Rich Communication Services) messages in the Google Messages app. RCS conversations will now be identified by a noticeable badge, in the form of a blue bubble, located in the bottom-right corner of profile avatars for both group and individual chats. The message icon on the home screen will also be simplified and feature Dynamic Color theming to make it easier for users to spot RCS conversations.

Google’s messaging app, Google Messages, has seen several updates in recent times. End-to-end encryption was recently rolled out, allowing for more secure communication. Users also gained the ability to adjust the font size within conversation threads for improved readability.

While the animated emojis feature is not yet available to everyone, it shows that Google is constantly looking for ways to enhance user experience and add a dose of fun to conversations. As messaging apps continue to evolve, these new features could provide users with even more ways to express themselves through digital communication.

In the ever-changing landscape of messaging apps, Google is making strides to stay competitive by introducing exciting features and improvements in Google Messages. As the animated emojis feature continues to be tested and refined, users can look forward to a more engaging and dynamic messaging experience, all while keeping their conversations safe and secure.
