Google Maps is bringing an iOS exclusive feature to Android: Check details

Google Maps’ Android app is finally catching up to its iOS counterpart with the introduction of a long-awaited feature. The latest update from Google includes a weather widget, a feature that has been available on iOS for several years. With this update, Android users will now be able to access real-time weather information directly within the Google Maps app.

Once users have downloaded the most recent version of Google Maps on their Android devices, they will notice a small widget positioned on the left side of the app, just below the search bar. This widget displays the local temperature, weather conditions, and air quality index (AQI) in a compact box. These details are continuously updated as users navigate around. By tapping on the widget, users can access more comprehensive information about the weather conditions in their area, including the temperature forecast throughout the day and additional details such as whether it will be sunny, windy, or rainy, along with ‘Feels Like’ information.

In addition to providing weather information, the widget also features a detailed air quality map, powered by weather.com.

To take advantage of this new feature, Android users need to update their Google Maps app to version 11.113.x. However, it is important to note that this feature is still being rolled out gradually and may not be available to all users immediately.

In other Google Maps news, the company recently announced several exciting new artificial intelligence (AI)-based features that are set to enhance the app’s functionality. Among these features is Address Descriptors, which will now be available in over 75 Indian cities and is expected to be extended to all users by 2025. This feature provides up to five relevant landmarks to help users locate pinned locations more easily.

Another noteworthy addition is the Lens in Maps feature, which will display nearby destinations as users point their phones in a specific direction while on the road. This feature will initially be available on Android devices.

Google Maps is also introducing Live View walking navigation, designed to assist pedestrians in navigating their surroundings. The feature overlays arrows and other markers directly onto the Maps interface, providing users with clear visual guidance while on foot.

Lastly, the app will soon offer fuel-efficient routing options, allowing users to find greener routes for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

With these updates, Google Maps aims to provide users with a more comprehensive and personalized navigation experience, incorporating real-time weather information and advanced AI features.

Please ensure that whenever you use Google Maps or any other navigation system, you do so responsibly, prioritizing safety while on the road.

Note: The weather widget feature is currently available on Android with the version number 11.113.x of Google Maps. However, the release is gradual, so it may not be accessible to all users at this time.
