Girls Aloud hints tour will bring ‘wild things’ but no new music

Girls Aloud, the iconic British girl group, has hinted at an upcoming tour that promises to bring wild things to the stage, but disappointing fans by ruling out the release of new music. Bandmates Nadine Coyle, Cheryl, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh announced their highly anticipated 2024 arena tour, marking their first in over a decade, as a tribute to their late member Sarah Harding.

During an interview on BBC Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Coyle revealed that the creative director of the Girls Aloud reunion tour has lined up some daring and unconventional elements for their performances. Coyle shared, We’ve been known for that, like the many tours that we’ve done, where we’ve flown over, landed on another stage and then flown back. Or on one of the tours, we got under the B stage and then ran through the arena backwards to get to the dresser. I mean, we really are gluttons for punishment, but we’re all about the entertainment.

However, when asked about the possibility of new music accompanying the tour, all the band members replied with a unified No. It seems that fans will have to relive their favorite classic hits rather than being treated to fresh material. Nevertheless, they did leave open the possibility of performing at Glastonbury, one of the world’s most revered music festivals, as the official lineup for 2024 has not been announced yet.

Revealing that their original crew has returned to assist them with the tour, Cheryl expressed her excitement, saying, It’s part of our makeup. It’s part of the magic. Girls Aloud, formed in 2002 through the reality show Popstars: The Rivals, achieved immense success with four UK number one singles and even won a Brit Award for their hit song The Promise. Following their 10th anniversary reunion in 2012, a second reunion was planned for their 20th anniversary, but unfortunately, it was postponed due to Harding’s battle with cancer.

Coyle praised Harding’s impact and expressed the void her absence has left. She remarked, You have that huge massive element of her not being here. Cheryl also acknowledged the impact of Harding’s loss, sharing that the tour will never be the same without her and describing it as heartbreaking. However, they plan to honor her memory and keep her magic alive on stage. Cheryl said, She was part of our makeup for 20 years and that’s not going anywhere. She’ll be there in spirit on the stage. We’re going to celebrate her.

The band’s commitment to a charitable cause will also be present during the tour. Last year, Girls Aloud hosted a charity gala to raise funds for the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal, benefiting the Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Cancer Research UK. Additionally, they organized a 5k charity run titled Race For Life For Sarah. Cheryl expressed her pride in being able to raise money for breast cancer charities, highlighting the importance of giving back.

With the arena tour kicking off on May 18th, 2024, in Dublin, fans can expect an electrifying and nostalgia-filled experience. Although there won’t be new music to accompany the tour, Girls Aloud’s signature entertainment value and dedication to honoring Sarah Harding’s legacy will undoubtedly create an unforgettable show for their devoted fans.
