Ghana Football in Crisis: Urgent Rescue Needed, Says Former GFA VP

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice-President, George Afriyie, has called for an immediate rescue of Ghana’s football amidst a deepening crisis. Afriyie expressed his concerns over the lack of progress and the collapsing state of football in the country under the leadership of Kurt Okraku, the current GFA President. He emphasized that if decisive action is not taken soon, the situation will worsen over the next four years.

In a radio interview on Asempa FM, Afriyie highlighted the alarming decline of Ghana’s football performance, stating that the national team is struggling to defeat teams like Comoros, Niger, and even Madagascar. He voiced his belief that if this downward trend continues, it poses a significant problem for the future of Ghanaian football.

George Afriyie, who also serves as the President of Susubiribi Football Club, pointed out the lack of proper documents and structures to effectively run the game. He emphasized that if Kurt Okraku were doing a commendable job, he would be the first to acknowledge it. However, Afriyie firmly asserted that Okraku has failed in his duties, undermining the progress and overall potential of Ghanaian football.

The upcoming Ghana Football Association Elective Congress, scheduled for September 27 at the Radach Memorial Hotel in Tamale, provides an opportunity for change and a chance to address the pressing issues within the organization.

As Ghana’s football crisis deepens, it is crucial for stakeholders to come together and prioritize the rescue and revitalization of the sport. With the support of dedicated football enthusiasts and well-informed decisions made at the congress, there is hope for a brighter future.

In conjunction with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, GhanaWeb, the country’s leading digital news platform, has launched an extensive campaign to advocate for comprehensive legislation on organ harvesting, donation, and transplantation in Ghana. This initiative aims to ensure that parliament considers and passes the necessary laws to guide these crucial aspects of healthcare. The campaign seeks to raise awareness and generate support for this important cause.

In other news, nominations for the 2023 GhanaWeb Excellence Awards have begun. GhanaWeb encourages individuals to participate in the nomination process. By recognizing exceptional talent and achievements, these awards celebrate excellence across various fields and contribute to the country’s growth and development.

As Ghana faces pressing challenges in both football and healthcare legislation, it is essential for the nation to rally together and work towards transformative solutions. With collective effort and the right leadership, Ghana can overcome its current hurdles and emerge stronger than ever before.
