San Diego stores — Super Bowl LVIII: Costco’s exclusive Game Day chips, free Wendy’s cheeseburgers for days

But it’s different. The color is dark gold instead of the usual creams or pastels. It’s on the thicker side. It resists when you bite. It’s subtly sour and a little more than subtly spicy. The kind of spice that doesn’t burn your mouth off. Instead, that heat just pats you on the back and guides you back to the bag, as if to say, Have another. To take the edge off.

These jalapeño lime chips are for sale only this month and only at Costco stores throughout San Diego County and the Southwest.

These chips, by Zack’s Mighty, are made from actual tortilla chips using organic nixtamalized yellow corn. Their suggested retail price is $6.99 for a 24-ounce bag.

Launched in 2020, Zack’s Mighty also sells its chips at Whole Foods Market and the East Coast’s Wegmans. Other flavors include lime and nacho. Zack’s Mighty rolled tortilla chips, described as the first non-GMO rolled tortilla chips, are available in chili lime and fiery nacho, according to a news release.

One option for watching the game: Head to a watch party.

If you’re staying home and spring for catering, Tocaya Modern Mexican wants to help you celebrate the Super Bowl this year by adding an incentive to go big: catering and takeout orders of more than $150 will receive free chips and dip on Sunday.

Not just any dips.

The freebie-with-purchase is a catering size order — sized to serve up to 10 people — and includes plantain chips, tortilla chips, guacamole and Tocaya’s three house salsas: roasted tomato, tomatillo and pico de gallo.

Tocaya has one restaurant in San Diego, at the One Paseo mall in Carmel Valley. Its restaurant at Westfield UTC closed.

Wendy’s is making its burgers available for free, now through Monday. On Sunday, it’s also waiving delivery fees.

Why? The company is celebrating a milestone ad that may be abstract or a nonentity to some people (the very young, people who don’t watch TV, people who have been fast-forwarding through commercials since 1984) and iconic to anyone who recognizes this slogan: Where’s the beef? Wendy’s introduced it back in 1984 — during Super Bowl XVIII.

Trivia time: Who faced off? The answer is below.

Retail Wire shared details about the freebie: The burger must be ordered with a paid purchase through Wendy’s mobile app, under the offers tab. Delivery is also free during the game, through the app.

The free burger deal ends Monday.

Answer: The Las Vegas Raiders played the Washington Redskins. The Raiders won 38-9.

**San Diego stores — Super Bowl LVIII: Costco’s exclusive Game Day chips, free Wendy’s cheeseburgers for days**

Costco stores in San Diego County and the Southwest region are offering an exclusive treat for football fans gearing up for Super Bowl LVIII. Made from organic nixtamalized yellow corn, these chips are exclusively available at Costco stores throughout the month at a suggested retail price of $6.99 for a 24-ounce bag. Zack’s Mighty, known for its non-GMO rolled tortilla chips, also offers flavors like lime and nacho at select retailers, including Whole Foods Market and Wegmans on the East Coast.

For those planning to host a Super Bowl watch party at home, Tocaya Modern Mexican is offering an enticing deal. Catering and takeout orders over $150 will receive a complimentary assortment of chips and dips, perfect for hosting up to 10 people. The catering size order includes plantain chips, tortilla chips, guacamole, and Tocaya’s signature house salsas, including roasted tomato, tomatillo, and pico de gallo. Tocaya Modern Mexican has one location in San Diego, situated at the One Paseo mall in Carmel Valley.

Meanwhile, Wendy’s is joining in the Super Bowl celebrations by offering free cheeseburgers until Monday. To commemorate the iconic ad campaign from 1984 that featured the famous slogan Where’s the beef?, Wendy’s is providing its customers with the opportunity to enjoy their classic cheeseburgers at no cost. On Sunday, Wendy’s will also waive delivery fees, allowing fans to place orders conveniently through their mobile app. Simply make a paid purchase through the app’s offers tab to redeem the free cheeseburger. This promotion serves as a nostalgic nod to Super Bowl XVIII, where the Las Vegas Raiders emerged victorious with a 38-9 win over the Washington Redskins.

Take advantage of these limited-time offers available at San Diego stores to enhance your Super Bowl LVIII experience. Whether you’re munching on the exclusive jalapeño lime chips from Costco or enjoying free Wendy’s cheeseburgers, these game day treats are sure to add some extra excitement to your Super Bowl celebrations.
