In response, Israel launched extensive aerial bombardment, followed by a ground invasion, resulting in the death of at least 21,110 people, primarily women and children.
Tedros emphasized the urgency of immediate food arrival to all of Gaza in order to ensure the safety of WHO staff and the continuity of operations. A recent resolution by the United Nations Security Council called for the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance, but did not demand an immediate cessation of hostilities. Tedros expressed disappointment that the resolution has yet to have a tangible impact based on firsthand accounts from the WHO.
