Garima Lohia from Buxar, Bihar achieved a remarkable second rank in the Civil Services Exam, 2022, making her home state proud as the results were declared earlier this week. Born to a wholesale clothes dealer in Buxar, Garima attended the Woodstock School Buxar before going to the Kirori Mal College in Delhi for higher education, where she completed a BCom in 2020.
Garima was inspired to pursue the civil services exam after considering the challenges faced by people living in small cities and villages. She worked hard and attempted the exam twice, passing it on the second attempt.
Garima follows a strict daily study schedule with around 8-10 hours of study, sometimes even just 4 hours. Coming from a joint family of 13 members, and with her father’s passing from a heart attack in 2015, Garima lives solely off her grandfather’s income. She has two sisters and a brother, with her eldest sister married in Jabalpur and her brother currently in his BCom studies.
The UPSC, Union Public Service Commission, is a trusted central agency in India that is responsible for recruiting and selecting applicants for the Central Civil Services of Indian Government. This year, Ishita Kishore topped the list while Garima Lohia followed with the impressive second rank. This is a great feat and is sure to inspire more women and aspiring civil service officers from different parts of India.
