Gardaí Seize €2M Cocaine, Firearms in Major Dublin Drug Bust
Irish police, known as the Gardaí, have made a significant drug bust in Dublin, seizing €2 million worth of cocaine and uncovering firearms. The operation, named Operation Tara, involved searches in Dublin, Kilkenny, and Waterford, resulting in the arrests of four men for drug trafficking.
During a routine vehicle stop in the Finglas area of Dublin, the Gardaí discovered the large quantity of cocaine. Subsequent planned searches in various locations yielded one kilo of cannabis, three Glock handguns, a replica handgun, and various drug-related paraphernalia. In addition, €18,000 in cash and several communication devices were confiscated.
The Gardaí worked in collaboration with the Garda Dog Unit and members of the Divisional Drug Units in Tallaght, Kilkenny, and Ashbourne Garda stations to carry out the searches.
Assistant Commissioner Justin Kelly, who oversees organised crime investigations, commended the officers involved in the operation, stating, This significant intelligence-led operation demonstrates the inextricable link between illegal firearms and the drugs trade. We know that these types of deadly weapons are used by organised criminal groups to intimidate, maim, and kill. Suppressing access to illegal firearms is an absolute priority for An Garda Síochána.
The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis, while investigations into the case are still ongoing.
This operation highlights law enforcement’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking and organised crime in Ireland. Through their efforts, the Gardaí are making significant strides towards protecting communities and ensuring public safety.
