Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Jal Shakti Minister, recently spoke with IANS and discussed various issues, including the achievements and criticism of the ruling BJP government. Shekhawat highlighted the achievements of the Narendra Modi government, stating that it has reinstilled people’s faith in the country’s system, which was lost in the past. He also discussed the criticism of the Opposition parties against the government, stating that they have been trying to come up with a front against Modi’s government for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Shekhawat also spoke on the progress made by the Jal Shakti Ministry and the government’s promises on cleaning the Ganga river. He highlighted that the initiatives undertaken by the government have resulted in the cleanliness of Ganga’s water, from the point of origin till its drainage into the sea. The Union Minister further added that the Namami Gange project has been successful and that the number of aquatic creatures in the Ganga has increased, which indicates improved cleanliness.
The UN has ranked India’s ‘Namami Gange’ mission related to Ganga cleanliness among the top 10 World Restoration Programmes. Shekhawat highlighted this achievement and stated that investment of Rs. 3,000 crore was done towards the direction of cleaning the Ganga river. The Hilsa fish and tortoises’ numbers have gone up, and the dolphins’ population has increased from hundreds to thousands in the Ganga river.
