Fundraiser Concert and Dinner to Support Maui Wildfire Victims

GARDENA — In an effort to assist those affected by the recent wildfires on the island of Maui, a buffet dinner and concert will be held this Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute in Gardena. Organized by One Ohana Collective and GVJCI, the event aims to raise funds for the victims of the devastating wildfires.

The Southern California Japanese American community, known for its deep ties to Hawaiian culture, is coming together to support their friends and family who have suffered from the tragic wildfires. The event will feature Elemental Funk, a band led by Brian Yamamoto, who expressed his emotional connection to the cause. We have all been deeply moved by the tragic wildfires. Many of us know friends and family that have lost homes, businesses, and lives, said Yamamoto.

Numerous restaurants, including Auntie Maile’s Hawaiian, The Loft, Aloha Pizza & Shave Ice, South Bay Rice Things, Cherrystones, and Friends of the Vine, will be participating in the event, offering a delectable buffet dinner. Attendees can also enjoy a beer garden, dessert bar, auction, raffle, and purchase event t-shirts.

For those looking for an enhanced experience, a VIP happy hour featuring pupus, drinks, and preferred concert seating will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. The concert will be live-streamed from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the GVJCI’s YouTube channel.

The cost of the dinner and show is $75 per person or $800 for a table of eight. To purchase tickets or obtain more information, please contact Brian Yamamoto at (310) 408-4730 or email bri_yama@yahoo.com. Donations can also be made for the relief efforts at https://gofund.me/debf6a5a.

The One Ohana Collective, a group comprising South Bay businesses and entertainers, was recently established to directly support residents and small businesses in the Lahaina area. This fundraiser concert and dinner is just one of the initiatives undertaken by the collective to provide assistance and hope to those affected by the wildfires on Maui.

This event not only aims to bring the community together but also to raise crucial funds for the victims of the Maui wildfires. By enjoying an evening of music, food, and camaraderie, attendees can make a meaningful contribution to the ongoing relief efforts.
