State BJP convener (tourism) Takir Kurdu donated Rs 1,50,000 out of his own pocket to the government upper primary school (GUPS) in Daporijo, which suffered significant damage in an arson attack on 24 May. Kurdu and his team visited the school on Tuesday to assess the damage caused by the fire and met with GUPS Headmaster Marok Bayor who confirmed that the school’s infrastructure and materials were all damaged. Following the attack, a complaint was lodged at the police station in hopes of catching the perpetrator responsible for the damage. The police later arrested an alleged accomplice who has since been remanded in judicial custody for further investigation.
Kurdu was saddened by the damage done to the school and encouraged the government to take the necessary measures to ensure the restoration of the institution. The school is an asset to the community, and its rebuilding was a priority. Kurdu, who donated the funds out of his own pocket, has called for exemplary punishment for those found responsible for the attack.
GUPS is a primary educational institution that aims to provide foundational knowledge and skills to children. The school is an essential part of the community, and the government and private donors are vital to restoring and maintaining it. The attack on GUPS was a senseless act of destruction and violence.
