Edo State Police Arrest Fulani Herdsman Suspected of Kidnappings in Niger Delta
The Edo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat kidnappings in the Niger Delta region. Operatives have successfully apprehended a 25-year-old Fulani herdsman named Idris Amedu, who is believed to be the mastermind behind a series of abductions. Amedu, also known as Dogo, was allegedly the head of a notorious kidnapping syndicate that is said to have recently killed several police officers.
Confirming the arrest, Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the state command, revealed that Amedu was apprehended in Ahor community, near Benin City. Police officers acted on reliable intelligence received by detectives at Egba police station, leading to the successful capture of the suspect. Amedu was found emerging from a bush with a bag that contained belongings reportedly belonging to one of his victims. The arrest occurred on the evening of September 20 at around 10 pm.
The recovered items found in Amedu’s possession paint a disturbing picture of his alleged criminal activities. Among the items confiscated were eight different Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards from both local and foreign banks. Authorities also discovered a British residence permit and foreign cards belonging to individuals named Mr. Afam Ogbu and Mrs. Ogbu Mary Theresa. Additionally, passport photographs of a white lady and three young black men were uncovered, along with a company staff ID card bearing the name Oguejiofor John Uchenna, an ATM card belonging to Favour Obayuwana, international passports of foreigners, and various jewelry pieces including a pair of female wedding rings and necklaces.
Despite the overwhelming evidence, Amedu vehemently denies his involvement in any kidnappings. He claims to have merely stumbled upon the bag by the roadside and was on his way to deliver it to the nearest police station when he was apprehended by the authorities.
The Edo State Police Command has assured the public that a thorough investigation into the matter has commenced. The spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, has stated that the suspect will soon face charges in court, where all the evidence gathered against him will be presented.
