Former White House Lawyer Warns: Trump’s ‘Off the Rails’ Comments Could Land Him in Jail

Former White House lawyer Ty Cobb has issued a warning about former President Donald Trump’s contentious comments regarding his pending court cases, stating that they could potentially result in his imprisonment. In an interview with CNN, Cobb expressed his concerns about the extent to which Trump’s inflammatory remarks may influence ongoing legal proceedings and intimidate witnesses.

Cobb drew a parallel between Trump’s provocative statements and his involvement in the events of January 6th, suggesting that such behavior could have serious consequences. He emphasized the potential for sanctions against Trump, predicting that these types of comments could ultimately lead to his imprisonment during the trials he is facing.

The former president is currently dealing with four criminal trials related to allegations of mishandling classified documents in Florida, attempting to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia and Washington, and making hush money payments to conceal an affair in New York. Additionally, a civil trial brought by Attorney General Letitia James in New York accuses Trump and his company of misleading banks, insurers, and others by inflating his net worth to secure larger loans and better insurance rates.

Restrictions have been imposed on Trump and his legal team through a limited gag order in the civil case, preventing them from discussing the judge, their team, or any involved witnesses. Similarly, there is a gag order in place for his election case in Washington; however, it is currently paused pending an appeal.

Despite already being fined $15,000 for two previous violations of the gag order in New York, Trump continues to engage in similar actions. Recently, he shared a post on Truth Social suggesting that Attorney General James and Judge Engoron should be subjected to citizen’s arrest for alleged election interference and harassment.

Cobb, who worked as a lawyer in the Trump administration, criticized the former president’s petty dictator-type talk, stating that it not only undermines him but also the reputation of the United States.

Regarding the possibility of Trump winning the 2024 election, Cobb pointed out that any ongoing cases against him could potentially be paused. According to a federal rule, a sitting president cannot be indicted or prosecuted during their term. Cobb suggested that it is likely a court may rule that the prosecution must wait until the end of Trump’s term before proceeding.

The Washington Times has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment on the matter.

In conclusion, Ty Cobb, a former White House lawyer, has voiced concerns about Donald Trump’s divisive comments, warning that they could result in his imprisonment. Trump is currently facing various criminal trials and a civil case, and his continued violation of gag orders has raised further alarms. Cobb highlights the potential consequences of Trump’s behavior and its implications for the reputation of the United States. Whether these remarks will lead to any legal action against Trump remains to be seen, but they certainly add to the controversy surrounding the former president’s ongoing legal battles.
