Former Vice President Mike Pence has not ruled out the possibility of testifying against his ex-boss, Donald Trump, in a criminal trial. Pence made this statement during an interview on CBS’s Face the Nation, where he stated that while he currently has no plans to testify, he would respond to the call of the law if it comes and would ensure to tell the truth.

Pence, who is running in the 2024 Republican presidential nominating contest against Trump, became a central figure in the latest criminal charges against the former president. These charges accuse Trump of orchestrating a criminal conspiracy to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges.

One key element of the indictment is the pressure that Trump exerted on Pence to overturn the election result during the certification process in Congress on January 6, 2021. Pence, in his role as president of the US Senate, oversaw these proceedings and refused to participate in the scheme. This decision led to Trump’s supporters chanting Hang Mike Pence during the violent riot at the US Capitol.

Pence’s potential testimony and his contemporaneous notes could be crucial pieces of evidence in the prosecution’s case against Trump. These notes reportedly include a reference to a phone call where Trump berated Pence for not participating in the scheme to overturn the election.

In response to the indictment, Trump launched an attack on Pence, calling him delusional and referring to him as ‘Liddle’ Mike Pence. While Pence’s presidential campaign has struggled to gain traction, Trump has consistently remained the frontrunner in the 2024 Republican primary race.

This year, Trump has already faced two other criminal indictments and has pleaded not guilty to both. One case involves federal charges in Miami, accusing him of retaining classified documents after leaving office and obstructing justice. The other case involves New York state charges in Manhattan, accusing him of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to a porn star. Trump may also face a fourth indictment in Georgia related to his efforts to overturn the election results in that state.

Pence has recently taken a stronger stance against his former boss, accusing him of surrounding himself with crackpot lawyers after the 2020 election. Pence’s campaign has even capitalized on Trump’s indictment by selling merchandise featuring a Too Honest logo.

As the legal proceedings continue, Pence’s potential role as a witness could provide valuable insight into Trump’s actions leading up to the Capitol riot. The public will be watching closely to see how this high-stakes trial unfolds and whether Pence ultimately takes the stand against his ex-boss.
