The former US ambassador to Bolivia has been charged with acting as a secret agent for the Cuban government. Manuel Rocha, a 73-year-old former American diplomat, has been accused of supporting Cuba’s intelligence services and their clandestine activities against the United States. Prosecutors claim that Rocha, who served as the US ambassador to Bolivia from 2000 to 2002 and held various positions in US embassies around the world, repeatedly referred to the US as the enemy and praised Fidel Castro during meetings with an undercover FBI employee posing as a member of Cuban intelligence. The indictment alleges that the Cuban government has been recruiting individuals within the United States to assist with intelligence gathering for years. Rocha is facing federal charges, including acting as an illegal agent of a foreign government. He has been arrested and is expected to appear in federal court in Miami.
