Former leader of the Students Federation of India (SFI), K. Vidya, has been arrested for allegedly forging documents to secure a government teaching job in Kerala. According to sources, Vidya was taken into police custody from a friend’s house in Kozhikode. Following her arrest, the ex-SFI leader released a statement proclaiming her innocence and claiming that the case was part of a wider Congress-led conspiracy against her and the state’s Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) leadership.
Vidya is accused of falsifying her experience certificate to obtain the post of a guest lecturer at a state-run college in Palakkad. The Congress has denied the allegations and demanded action against the accused. Veteran Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has accused the Kerala police and Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, of inefficiency. Vidya has been charged under Section 465 (punishment for forgery), 468 (committing forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (fraudulently using forged documents as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code. She is set to appear in court in Palakkad later today.
