Former President Donald Trump arrived defiantly for his trial in a civil fraud case, denouncing it as a politically motivated scam. The lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James accuses Trump and his company of deceiving banks, insurers, and others by lying about his wealth in financial statements. The judge has already ruled that Trump committed fraud in his business dealings, and if upheld on appeal, the ruling could result in Trump giving up control of properties including Trump Tower. Trump, who denies any wrongdoing, has called the case a witch hunt and a sham. He is seeking to fight for his name and reputation in court. The trial could have high stakes for Trump, who is also a front-runner for the 2024 presidential race. New York Attorney General James is seeking $250 million in penalties and a ban on Trump doing business in the state. The trial is expected to last for several weeks.
