Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, is set to return as the head of the selection committee. He will be replacing Haroon Rasheed, the former test batter. The new selection committee, announced on Monday, also includes team director Mickey Arthur, head coach Grant Bradburn, and Hasan Cheema. Their first task will be to name the team for the upcoming three ODIs against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka.
Inzamam-ul-Haq was initially appointed as a member of the new Pakistan Cricket Board technical committee, headed by Misbah-ul-Haq and including Mohammad Hafeez. However, following his appointment as chief selector, Inzamam will no longer be a part of the technical committee. The cricket board will soon announce his replacement.
Having previously served as the chief selector during the last cricket World Cup in 2019, Inzamam will once again spearhead the selection process for the upcoming World Cup in India, scheduled for October.
Reflecting on his previous tenure, Inzamam expressed satisfaction with his performance, highlighting triumphs such as the ICC Champions Trophy victory in 2017. He also emphasized the significance of selecting players who now form the core of the current team. Inzamam believes that the current team is stable and will present fewer challenges compared to the previous transitionary phase.
Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the PCB’s managing committee, praised Inzamam’s previous tenure and expressed confidence in his future contributions. Ashraf acknowledged Inzamam’s Cricketing achievements, including the ICC Champions Trophy win and the discovery of talented individuals who continue to serve Pakistan cricket. He has no doubt that Inzamam’s return will further enhance the team’s success and bring new talented cricketers into the spotlight.
Inzamam-ul-Haq’s appointment as the head of the selection committee has generated excitement among the cricketing fraternity. His wealth of experience and knowledge will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and success of Pakistan cricket. Fans eagerly await the team selection for the upcoming ODIs against Afghanistan and the World Cup in India later this year.
