Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti was recently denied entry into the Someshwar Dham Shiva temple located inside Raisen fort in Raisen. On the occasion of the last ‘Sawan Somwar’, she had intended to offer ‘Ganga Jal’ at the historic Shiva temple, but was disappointed when she was stopped by the administration. In response, Bharti offered the holy water at the gate of the fort.
Expressing her discontent, Bharti called the incident unfortunate and pointed out that despite having governments at the Centre and in the state, she was denied entry. She even contemplated breaking the lock of the gate, questioning the appropriateness of the decision.
Bharti revealed that she had informed the administration about her plan to offer ‘Ganga Jal’ at the temple well in advance. The Central Archaeological Department, as well as the Central and State authorities, had assured her that the gates of the temple would be opened on the last Monday of Sawan. However, she expressed her disappointment at the recurring instances of being stopped from entering the temple.
The temple within the fort opens only once a year on the day of Shivratri. For the remaining 364 days, it remains locked. Local devotees have immense faith in the Someshwar Dham temple. The temple was under the Archaeological Department and had been locked. In 1974, the citizens of the city protested for the temple to be opened and the Shivling to be consecrated. The then Chief Minister personally intervened and had the Shivling consecrated on Mahashivratri. Since then, the temple is opened for devotees every year on Mahashivratri, accompanied by a grand fair.
This incident raises questions about the access to religious sites and the transparency of communication between authorities and devotees. While Bharti expressed her disappointment, it is important to consider all perspectives and understand the reasons behind this decision. Authorities must ensure clear communication and address the concerns of religious devotees to maintain harmony and uphold the sanctity of these revered places.
In conclusion, former MP CM Uma Bharti’s attempt to enter the Someshwar Dham Shiva temple was thwarted, leading her to offer ‘Ganga Jal’ at the gate of the fort instead. The incident highlights the need for effective communication and transparency between authorities and devotees, as well as the significance of religious freedom and access to holy places.
