Former Ecuadorian beauty queen Landy Parraga Goyburo tragically lost her life in a shocking incident of violence in Quevedo. The 23-year-old, who had participated in the Miss Ecuador pageant in 2022 representing Los Ríos Province, was shot and killed by two armed assailants in broad daylight on Sunday.
The horrifying event, captured by CCTV cameras, showed Landy chatting with a man at a restaurant when two gunmen entered and attacked them. She dropped to the floor while the man next to her sought cover. Despite their attempts to protect themselves, the gunmen shot both victims before fleeing the scene.
Landy’s death has shocked the community, especially given her young age and promising future. She was not only a beauty queen but also a successful entrepreneur, owning a household goods importing business and running her sportswear line. With a significant social media following, she was a well-known figure in Ecuador.
This tragic incident has raised questions about the motive behind the attack. Investigations are ongoing to determine why Landy was targeted and to identify the perpetrators. However she made headlines last December when her name was mentioned in a chat between drug trafficker Leandro Norero and his accountant, Helive Angulo. In the chat, Angulo told the drug trafficker Leandro Norero that the police had asked him about Landy. Norero was killed in prison in 2022, six months after his imprisonment.
