Manohar Joshi Death News: The Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Manohar Joshi passed away at a Mumbai hospital on Friday, where he was admitted after suffering a cardiac arrest. Joshi was admitted to the ICU of PD Hinduja Hospital on Wednesday and he breathed his last at the private medical facility today.
Former CM of Maharashtra and Former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi breathed his last today at Hinduja Hospital Mumbai at around 3:00 am. He was admitted to Hinduja Hospital on February 21 after he suffered a cardiac arrest, news agency ANI reported citing family sources.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar (86) was severely ill, the hospital said in a statement on Thursday. Joshi was admitted to the same hospital in May last year after he suffered a brain haemorrhage.
Manohar Joshi’s Political Career
On December 2, 1937, Joshi was born in a Marathi-speaking Brahmin family in Nandavi of Raigad district in Maharashtra. He entered into politics in 1967 and was associated with the Shiv Sena for over 40 years. Joshi began his career by being elected to the Legislative Council from the undivided Shiv Sena.
He served as chief minister from 1995 to 1999 and was the first leader from the undivided Shiv Sena to occupy the top post in the state. When the Vajpayee government was in power, he was elected as a Member of Parliament and was the Lok Sabha Speaker from 2002 to 2004.
