Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R) has condemned former President Donald Trump’s dangerous and pathetic efforts to overturn the 2020 election and remain in power. Duncan called out Trump after his attorney, John Lauro, attempted to downplay Trump’s 2021 phone call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, where he demanded that Raffensperger find the votes needed to overturn the election.
During an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Duncan was played a recording of the infamous phone call and asked if Lauro’s characterization of it as an aspirational ask was accurate. Duncan didn’t mince words, describing the call as dangerous and pathetic and expressing embarrassment when he first heard it.
Duncan went on to predict that many Republicans, including himself, would come to regret their association with Trump. He urged the former president to step back from the race for the sake of both the Republican Party and the country.
Earlier in the day, Duncan shared that he had been subpoenaed to testify before a Georgia grand jury investigating Trump’s attempts to overturn the election in the state. The decision on whether to charge Trump in this case, which would be his fourth indictment, is expected later this month.
