Chris Spielman, a former Detroit Lion player and current team executive, is set to be inducted into the High School Football Hall of Fame. Known for his impressive football career, Spielman was a three-time All-Pro and a four-time Pro Bowler during his time with the Lions. However, it is his contributions to breast cancer awareness that have also garnered attention.

Spielman and his late wife, Stephanie, were instrumental in starting numerous foundations and charities that have raised millions of dollars for breast cancer research and patient assistance. In fact, NFL teams now wear pink uniforms every October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, thanks to their efforts.

While Spielman has accomplished much in his professional career, it is his achievements from his time on the high school gridiron that are being honored. He will join the inaugural class of the High School Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. This distinguished class includes legendary football figures such as the Manning family (Cooper, Peyton, Eli, and Archie), as well as Archie Griffin and Lomas Brown.

Reflecting on his induction, Spielman expressed his gratitude, stating that it is a tremendous honor and long overdue. He further highlighted the significance of having a high school football hall of fame and expressed his sense of pride at being a part of it.

Spielman graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio, in 1984. At the age of 15, he first played varsity football under the guidance of his father. It was during this time that he truly fell in love with the sport. In fact, Spielman was even awarded the Dial Award as the National High School Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1983, and he became the first high school athlete to have his picture featured on a Wheaties box.

While Spielman has moved into the front office as an executive for the Lions, his love for football remains unwavering. He expressed his confidence in the current team leadership, recognizing the strong leadership of General Manager Brad Stevens and coach Dan Campbell. Spielman believes that this could be a special year for the Lions.

Interestingly, Spielman originally intended to attend the University of Michigan for college. However, out of loyalty to his father, he chose to attend Ohio State University instead. This decision speaks to Spielman’s character and the importance he places on family values.

Overall, Chris Spielman’s induction into the High School Football Hall of Fame serves as a much-deserved honor for his outstanding contributions to the game of football. From his impressive professional career to his charitable endeavors, Spielman has left an indelible mark on the sport. His journey from high school to the NFL exemplifies his passion and commitment to the game he loves.
