South Africa Tourism: 79K Indian Visitors in 2023

Jaipur: South Africa’s tourism industry, much like Rajasthan and India, has been grappling with a decline in foreign tourist arrivals due to the ongoing global pandemic. However, there is hope on the horizon as the Rainbow Nation aims to exceed its pre-Covid levels. At a recent roadshow in Jaipur, a senior official from South African tourism revealed that the country received 8 million arrivals in 2022, compared to 10 million in 2019. Nevertheless, they are optimistic about surpassing the 10 million mark in the coming year.

Neliswa Nkani, the hub head for the Middle East, India, and South East Asia at South African Tourism, shared her enthusiasm, stating, This year, we will cross the 10 million mark.South Africa witnessed a 43% increase in inbound travelers from India in 2023. The country continues to prioritize India as one of our top three focus markets.

The state of Rajasthan played a significant role in South Africa’s tourism numbers, accounting for 26% of the 79,000 Indian visitors to the country last year. Attendees at the roadshow included 250 Indian travel trade delegates from Jaipur and 40 other cities across the nation.

As the world slowly recovers from the devastating impact of the pandemic, countries are eagerly reopening their borders and welcoming tourists once again.
