Foreign Nobel Laureates Urged to Understand Bangladesh’s Reality as PM’s G20 Summit Participation Enhances Dhaka-Delhi Ties, Says Momen

DHAKA – In light of the recent open letter by over 100 foreign Nobel laureates to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen, has called on these influential figures to better understand the reality of Bangladesh before forming opinions on important matters.

The open letter requested the Prime Minister to halt the ongoing legal proceedings against Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus. However, PM Sheikh Hasina firmly rejected this plea, instead inviting the signatories to personally visit Bangladesh and investigate the allegations against Dr. Yunus.

Addressing these concerns, Professor Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of National University, emphasized the significance of comprehending the life-force of Bangladesh before making judgments about Dr. Yunus.

His timely remarks were made during a discussion on the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which was titled Bangabandhu -O-Bangladesh (Bangabandhu and Bangladesh). The discussion took place at Moin Uddin Memorial College in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.

It is crucial for foreign Nobel laureates, regarded as distinguished global figures, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the socio-political landscape and context of Bangladesh. This will enable them to form well-informed opinions on the specific issues they address.

By emphasizing the importance of foreign Nobel laureates experiencing the realities of Bangladesh firsthand, PM Sheikh Hasina aims to promote transparency and fairness in the ongoing legal proceedings against Dr. Yunus. This assertive stance exhibits her commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice.

Bangladesh greatly values its bilateral relationship with neighboring India. Consequently, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s participation in the upcoming G20 Summit is expected to further strengthen the ties between Dhaka and Delhi.

As preparations are underway for the G20 Summit, it becomes increasingly important for key stakeholders to recognize the significant role that Bangladesh plays in the global arena. The summit provides an excellent opportunity for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to engage with world leaders, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

In conclusion, the call by Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister for foreign Nobel laureates to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s realities is a crucial reminder of the importance of context in making informed judgments. By inviting them to experience Bangladesh firsthand, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina exhibits her commitment to transparency and justice. As her participation in the G20 Summit approaches, it is expected to elevate the bilateral relationship between Dhaka and Delhi, further cementing ties between the two nations.
