Ford Recalls 870K F-150 Trucks Over Electric Parking Brake Issue
Detroit-based automaker Ford Motor announced on Friday that it is recalling 870,000 of its F-150 trucks in the United States due to a potential wiring issue that poses a risk of unexpected activation of the electric parking brake. The recall covers F-150 trucks from the 2021 through 2023 model years and specifically includes trucks equipped with a single exhaust system.
According to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the wiring harness of the rear axle housing may be damaged upon contact, which can cause the electric parking brake to activate unintentionally. Ford revealed that it has received 918 warranty claims and three field reports of wire chafing in North America. Out of these reports, 299 indicated that the electric parking brake had activated unintentionally, with 19 incidents occurring while the vehicles were in motion.
Despite these incidents, Ford stated that it has not received any reports of crashes or injuries associated with the wiring issue. To address the problem, dealers will install a protective tie strap, tape wrap, and replace the damaged harness as necessary.
While the recall is concerning, it is crucial to note that Ford’s swift action in addressing the issue demonstrates its commitment to ensuring customer safety. By proactively recalling the affected trucks, the automaker aims to prevent any potential accidents or injuries.
Customers who own the affected vehicles will be notified by Ford, and they are advised to bring their trucks to authorized dealerships for inspections, repairs, and necessary replacements. It is essential for F-150 truck owners to respond to the recall and address the issue promptly to minimize any potential risks associated with the electric parking brake.
In order to maintain transparency and keep customers informed, Ford will continue working closely with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) throughout the recall process. Additionally, the automaker encourages F-150 truck owners to contact their local dealerships or reach out to the Ford Customer Service team if they have any questions or concerns regarding the recall.
While recalls can be inconvenient, they are an integral part of ensuring the safety of customers and maintaining the reputation of the automaker. Ford’s proactive approach in addressing the potential electric parking brake issue demonstrates its commitment to delivering quality vehicles to its customers.
With no reported crashes or injuries related to this particular recall, Ford’s timely action serves as a reminder of the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and adherence to recall notifications. As always, it is crucial for vehicle owners to stay vigilant and promptly address any potential safety concerns identified by the manufacturer.
