The people of Malaysia have been urged to show their love for their country by flying the Jalur Gemilang, the Malaysian flag, during the National Month and Malaysia Day celebrations. This call was made by Fahmi Fadzil, the Communications and Digital Minister, who encouraged Malaysians to proudly display the flag at their homes, on their vehicles, business premises, and government buildings.
Fahmi highlighted that various programs and activities have been organized throughout the National Month to celebrate the country’s independence. These include a cheap sales program, street soccer, free health screenings, exhibitions, and graffiti art performances. The launch of the 2023 National Month and the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign took place at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, Meru Raya. The event was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof on behalf of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Also in attendance were Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Bernama Chief Executive Officer Roslan Ariffin, and Bernama Editor-in-Chief Jamaluddin Muhammad.
Fahmi emphasized that the 2023 National Month celebration promotes the ‘Karnival Kita MADANI’ concept, which is based on the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI and the approach of ‘unity in diversity.’ The celebrations aim to foster a sense of love for the country and witnessed the collaboration of various parties to organize numerous exciting programs throughout the National Month.
During the launch, Fahmi highlighted the participation of 10,000 people in the symbolic 6,600 Langkah Perpaduan event, which represents the 66th anniversary of Malaysia’s independence. He emphasized the importance of synergy between the leaders and the people in planning the country’s future.
Fahmi mentioned that the National Month celebrations will be promoted in every state and district, led by the Communications and Digital Ministry through the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen). The celebrations involve strategic cooperation from various government agencies, private companies, government-linked companies, and non-governmental organizations.
Additionally, the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy, carrying the ‘Jalur Gemilang baton,’ was flagged off on this occasion. The convoy will travel through a total of 132 checkpoints, with 66 in the peninsula and the remaining 66 in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.
The call to fly the Jalur Gemilang demonstrates the love and pride Malaysians have for their country. By displaying the flag, they are actively participating in the National Month and Malaysia Day celebrations while promoting unity and a sense of belonging. The various programs and activities organized throughout the month provide opportunities for Malaysians to come together, celebrate their independence, and showcase the rich diversity of their nation.
