Florida Man Indicted for Attempting to Entice Minor in Disturbing Online Case

Federal authorities have announced that Michael Buck Brockway, a 39-year-old resident of Jacksonville, Florida, has been indicted for allegedly using the internet to try to entice a minor child into engaging in sexual activity. This disturbing case, which unfolded online, has highlighted the ongoing efforts to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The indictment has been filed by the United States Attorney’s Office, and if convicted, Brockway could face a minimum mandatory penalty of 10 years in federal prison, with the potential for a life sentence. In addition, he could be subjected to a lifelong term of supervised release. Following his arrest on July 28, 2023, on related state charges, Brockway was arraigned in federal court on November 2, 2023, and has been ordered to remain detained until his trial.

This distressing incident is just one of many cases being pursued under Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice. The program aims to combat the alarming rise in child sexual exploitation and abuse through a combined effort of federal, state, and local resources. Its key objectives include locating, apprehending, and prosecuting individuals who sexually exploit children, as well as identifying and rescuing victims.

In conclusion, the indictment of Michael Buck Brockway for attempting to entice a minor into engaging in sexual activity demonstrates the ongoing commitment to safeguarding children against online predators. Through Project Safe Childhood, authorities are dedicated to bringing offenders to justice and rescuing victims from the clutches of exploitation and abuse. This case serves as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from such heinous crimes.
