A Florida man suspected of planning a mass shooting at a strip club will undergo a psychiatric evaluation before his case goes to trial. Surveillance footage captured 44-year-old Michael Rudman wearing a devil’s mask with kill and darkk one written on his arms as he approached the crowded venue on March 19, 2023. However, Rudman was stopped by 55-year-old Manuel Manny Anthony Resto, who initially thought it was a prank but quickly realized the situation’s severity upon seeing the firearm. A scuffle ensued, during which one shot was fired from Rudman’s gun but did not hit anyone.
Rudman’s intentions were revealed in court filings, stating that it was believed he intended to commit an act of mass violence and harm multiple people inside the strip club. A subsequent search of his truck, which was parked near the entrance, uncovered nine knives and other firearm accessories. Further investigation revealed that Rudman had a history of interactions with the Clearwater Police Department and had been arrested multiple times in Pinellas County.
Rudman’s attorney informed the court that his client had received mental health treatment in the past, although it had been interrupted at some point. The attorney also stated that they would not seek bond as Rudman was receiving necessary mental health treatment while in custody. Due to illness, Rudman has missed several court appearances, and a psychiatrist has been assigned to evaluate his mental state.
Currently, Rudman faces charges of aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon, possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm while under a risk protection order. The Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office requested a search warrant for Rudman’s electronic devices to gather evidence showing his involvement in planning a mass shooting.
It is essential to note that this incident highlights the potential dangers and emphasizes the importance of vigilant security measures to prevent such tragic events. The swift action taken by Manuel Resto has been described as heroic and likely saved lives. The case against Michael Rudman will continue to develop as the psychiatric evaluation takes place, and further court appearances are scheduled.
As always, the focus remains on the safety and well-being of the community, and incidents such as these serve as a reminder to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
