South Florida Couple Left Terrified by Gun-Wielding Impersonator in Miami-Dade
A couple living in Southwest Miami-Dade, Florida have recounted a terrifying encounter with a man claiming to be a police officer who allegedly threatened them with a gun. The incident took place on Monday when the man was pulled over by an individual in a white SUV equipped with police lights near their apartment complex on Southwest 89th Court.
The man described the shock he experienced upon seeing the lights and recounted that the person inside the SUV used a loudspeaker to make demands. According to the resident, the individual said, Drop the windows, or I’m gonna drop you, [expletive]. Things escalated quickly as the man in the police uniform got out of the SUV and pointed a gun at him, allegedly threatening to kill him.
The man’s wife witnessed the incident from their second-story apartment and confirmed her husband’s account. She described how the impersonator aggressively gestured with the gun, mimicking the act of shooting. An elderly neighbor who saw the interaction believed that the uniformed man was about to shoot the couple’s husband.
However, the wife refused to stand idly by and sprang into action by yelling at the impersonator to stop. She attempted to record the incident on her cellphone, prompting the impersonator to quickly cover his face and retreat to his vehicle. He then hastily reversed the SUV and sped away, avoiding capture.
The couple, fearful for their safety and unsure whether the impersonator was actually a police officer, immediately contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD). The department has launched an official investigation and is actively searching for the perpetrator. They have advised anyone who suspects they are being stopped by an unmarked police vehicle and has doubts about the validity of the officer to contact 911 to confirm the officer’s credentials.
The incident has raised concerns about police impersonation, leaving the couple worried about potential retaliation. They are left wondering whether the person who harassed them was a genuine law enforcement officer or an impostor. The MDPD is yet to confirm if the impersonator was indeed a police officer or an imposter.
This disconcerting encounter serves as a reminder for the community to exercise caution when dealing with unmarked police vehicles. The safety of residents remains the top priority for the MDPD, and they encourage people to report any suspicious incidents to ensure the credibility of law enforcement officers.
If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers. Information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case may be rewarded with up to $5,000.
