North Sikkim has been hit by severe floods and landslides due to heavy rains that started on Thursday, June 15. The flash floods have resulted in massive destruction of infrastructures and properties in the affected areas. Landslides have also been reported along the national highway 10 at Pegong in Sikkim, causing communication to snap between Lachen and Lachung areas of Sikkim and the rest of the country.
The heavy rains have resulted in the swelling of nearby rivers, further resulting in flash floods in North Sikkim. Hundreds of vehicles have been left stranded due to the blockade of roads resulting from landslides.
Efforts are being put in place by the authorities in Sikkim to clear the debris along the national highway 10, to restore a hassle-free movement of vehicles.
