Flood-Like Situation in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi District Strands Tourists, Landslides and Flash Floods Continue: Officials
Due to heavy rainfall, the Balh Valley in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, is experiencing a flood-like situation, with tourists being stranded and many houses and fields getting inundated, according to officials. The Pairi Pasta rivulet and Suketi Khadd Rivulet have seen alarming rises in water levels. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rains in several districts, including Shimla, from August 12 to 14.
Officials have reported multiple instances of landslides and rockslides in various districts of Himachal Pradesh. The continuous rains have caused travel advisories to be issued, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, especially at night, in areas where roads are not in proper condition. The landslides and rockslides are not readily visible due to the inclement weather conditions.
The monsoon fury in Himachal Pradesh has triggered landslides, flash floods, and fresh landslides. A recent landslide occurred in Bilaspur district, adding to the already devastating effects of the current monsoon season. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 24, the death toll in the state has reached 223, with 295 people injured. Additionally, 800 houses have been completely damaged, and another 7,500 houses have suffered partial damage, as reported by Himachal Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi.
