Travel chaos has gripped Europe as heavy snowfall forced two major airports to cancel flights. Munich Airport in Germany and Glasgow Airport have both suspended operations, causing disruptions and frustration for travelers.
Munich Airport announced that all flights departing and arriving are on hold until at least 12pm local time. Long-distance trains were also affected, with Deutsche Bahn stating that they could not reach Munich’s central train station.
The situation is expected to last throughout the day, prompting travel authorities to advise passengers to rebook their trips. In Dublin, several flights have been canceled, including two Lufthansa Airlines flights and an Aer Lingus flight. Glasgow Airport, on the other hand, experienced heavier than forecast snow, resulting in the temporary suspension of all flights.
With snowfall hitting parts of Scotland, temperatures dropped to minus 10 degrees Celsius on Friday night. Motorists in Ireland have been warned of slippery conditions due to icy roads and paths. Met Eireann, the national meteorological service, issued a Status Yellow Low Temperature, Ice and fog warning, in effect until 12pm Sunday. The forecast indicates that cold temperatures will persist in the coming days, with a possibility of heavy rain, sleet, and snow.
Despite the travel disruptions and wintry weather, authorities are urging people to take caution and stay safe during their journeys.
