First West Nile Virus Case Confirmed in Midland County, US

The City of Midland Health Services has confirmed West Nile Virus (WNV) in Midland County for the first time this year. Mosquito traps placed throughout the county by Midland Health Services yielded positive tests for WNV from mosquitoes. The incubation period for WNV ranges from 2 to 14 days and can be several weeks in immunocompromised individuals, with symptoms ranging from fever to neuroinvasive diseases. The Texas Department of State Health Services advises precautions such as wearing long sleeves, applying insect repellent, and eliminating standing water to prevent mosquito bites and the spread of WNV.
