Fire Breaks Out at BBMP Office in Bengaluru: CM Siddaramaiah Visits Injured, Orders Probe
In a shocking incident, a fire broke out in the premises of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) office in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, along with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, visited the injured individuals at the hospital and ordered a probe into the incident.
Accompanied by Cabinet Minister Ramalinga Reddy and other officials, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister visited Victoria Hospital, where the injured were receiving treatment. They also inspected the site of the incident.
Speaking about the incident, CM Siddaramaiah expressed his concern for the well-being of those hospitalized and emphasized the importance of providing them with the best available treatment. He also instructed the Commissioner to conduct a thorough inquiry into the cause of the fire.
The fire erupted while a meeting was taking place in the quality control room, resulting in individuals shouting for help as smoke engulfed the area. Some sustained injuries while attempting to escape the blaze. The victims have suffered burns ranging from 15 to 30 percent, but doctors have indicated that there is no immediate risk to their lives if the burns are below 40 percent. The Chief Minister has recommended that all nine patients be treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) to ensure their recovery. Fortunately, despite burns on their hands and faces, their eyes remain unharmed.
CM Siddaramaiah expressed that any updates regarding the condition of those receiving treatment can only be provided after a 48-hour observation period.
Regarding the incident, he stated, I have instructed the Commissioner to thoroughly investigate the cause of this incident. The police will also file a First Information Report (FIR). As the victims are under observation for the next 48 hours, we cannot ascertain the situation at present. However, it appears that all of them will survive. We should trust the doctors to handle the situation and only comment after their assessment.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar highlighted the importance of prioritizing the victims’ treatment and ensuring they receive the best care available. He also assured that a thorough investigation will take place.
Our main focus is to provide the injured with the best treatment. We have communicated the same to the officials and urged the doctors to provide proper care. Investigations will be carried out, but there is no need to discuss those details at this moment, Shivakumar stated.
The incident occurred around 5 PM, resulting in eight individuals suffering injuries. They were promptly transported to a hospital for medical assistance. Firefighters were also present at the scene, and the cause of the fire will be determined after a thorough investigation by the BBMP Chief Commissioner, Tushar Giri Nath.
This unfortunate incident emphasizes the need for strict safety protocols and precautions in public buildings to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
