FIFA President invites Haiya for meeting

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has extended an invitation to Fleetwood Haiya, the newly elected President of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), for a meeting in Saudi Arabia. Haiya, accompanied by FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda, is set to leave on Wednesday to attend the FIFA World Club Championship and the FIFA football summit. The meeting with Infantino will serve as an official welcome for Haiya into the international football family. It will also provide an opportunity for Haiya to share his vision for Malawi football as part of his agenda to transform the sport in the country.

In a letter sent on Sunday, Infantino congratulated Haiya on his election as FAM President, expressing his confidence in Haiya’s knowledge, leadership, passion, and experience to positively impact the development of football in Malawi. Infantino assured Haiya of FIFA’s support and encouraged him to discuss the development and promotion of football whenever needed.

Haiya’s victory in the FAM presidential election marked the end of Walter Nyamilandu’s 19-year reign as the head of Malawi’s football governing body. The invitation from FIFA to meet with Infantino indicates the international recognition of Haiya’s new leadership role within Malawi football.

The meeting in Saudi Arabia will also coincide with the FIFA World Club Championship and the FIFA football summit, providing Haiya and Gunda the opportunity to engage with other football leaders and exchange ideas on the global development of the sport.

The FAM general secretary, Gunda, expressed his excitement about the invitation and highlighted the significance of the meeting. Gunda stated that it would be an important occasion for the new FAM president to apprise FIFA on his vision for Malawi football and discuss how best to achieve his goals.

The meeting between Infantino and Haiya is expected to solidify the relationship between FIFA and the FAM, fostering collaboration in the development and promotion of football in Malawi. Haiya’s presence at the FIFA World Club Championship and the FIFA football summit will also provide valuable networking opportunities for the newly elected FAM president.

Haiya and Gunda are scheduled to return to Malawi on Saturday following the conclusion of the FIFA events. The Football Association of Malawi and the Malawian football community eagerly anticipate the positive outcomes that may emerge from this significant meeting between the FAM president and the FIFA president.
