Felipe Gonzalez Vazquez Pleads No Contest to Second-Degree Assault in Connection to Killing of Edward Varejcka, US

Felipe Gonzalez Vazquez has pleaded no contest to second-degree assault in connection to the killing of Edward Varejcka. The 20-year-old from Lincoln was already serving a life sentence for fatally shooting Lincoln Police Investigator Mario Herrera. Vazquez was wanted for second-degree assault in relation to Varejcka’s killing, and his fingerprints were found on a TV that was thrown over Varejcka’s head. An autopsy revealed that Varejcka died from three stab wounds. Prosecutors believed that the No Name Demons gang was responsible for the killing, with Vazquez being near the top of the gang’s hierarchy. Vazquez pleaded no contest as part of a plea deal that removed a murder charge from the table, and he could face up to 20 years in prison for second-degree assault. The incident occurred on March 8, 2020, when officers responded to a 911 call and found Varejcka dead in an apartment. Witnesses reported that a group of four individuals entered the apartment and demanded a robbery, during which Vazquez hit Varejcka with a TV before stabbing him. The group allegedly went to the apartment to retrieve a cellphone. Vazquez was later arrested on a warrant for felony assault, during which he fatally wounded Officer Herrera. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 129 years for Herrera’s murder.
