FBI Warns California Sikhs of Increased Threats After Killing of Khalistan Leader
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a warning to the Sikh community in California, alerting them of increased threats to their safety. This comes in the wake of the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent Khalistan leader who was killed in June outside a Sikh temple in British Columbia.
According to The Intercept, FBI agents visited several Sikh individuals in California during the summer to deliver this alarming message. Pritpal Singh, a US citizen and coordinator for the American Sikh Caucus Committee, confirmed that he and two other Sikh Americans were contacted by the FBI following Nijjar’s death.
The Sikh community in the US has also reportedly received police warnings about potential political threats. Sukhman Dhami, the coordinator of Ensaaf, a California-based nonprofit organization, shed light on these shocking revelations.
The killing of Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar provoked significant diplomatic tensions between Canada and India. In response, Canada expelled the head of India’s foreign intelligence agency (RAW) stationed in Ottawa, accusing India of involvement in Nijjar’s assassination. These actions resulted in a new low for the already strained relations between Ottawa and New Delhi.
The Five Eyes intelligence-sharing alliance, consisting of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, stands as a significant collaboration in the realm of global intelligence sharing.
This recent FBI warning highlights the importance of ensuring the safety of the Sikh community in California, particularly in light of the escalating threats following the killing of Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The FBI’s efforts to communicate the potential risks are commendable as they work to protect the Sikh population. With tensions between Canada and India also remaining high, it is crucial for all parties involved to find peaceful resolutions and prioritize the safety of individuals amid this volatile situation.
