A newlywed woman’s lover allegedly ran over her father in an attempt to stop him from preventing the couple from eloping. The shocking incident took place in Yogyanagar village, Birbhum, Kolkata on December 24. The victim, identified as Quddus Sheikh, was admitted to Burdwan Medical College in a serious condition.
The woman, Kutuba Khatun, was believed to be in a relationship with Sk Safikul, a resident of the same village, before her marriage. Despite Kutuba’s opposition to the match, her family married her off to Sk Younis from a nearby area in Burdwan. The couple visited Kutuba’s parents together after seven days of their marriage.
According to Kutuba’s relatives, Quddus Sheikh tried to intervene when Safikul and his group attempted to take the woman away in a vehicle on Sunday night. However, his attempt proved fatal as Safikul, who was driving the vehicle, hit him and ran over his body. Quddus was immediately taken to a nearby hospital and later transferred to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital due to his critical condition.
Meanwhile, Kutuba and Safikul managed to escape, and a manhunt has been launched by the police to apprehend the couple.
