Father and Son from Highlands Ranch Arrested for Capitol Insurrection: Latest Details Revealed
A father and son from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, have been taken into custody on federal charges related to their involvement in the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. David Christian Tyner and his son, Christian Peter Tyner, were arrested on June 21st, accused of knowingly entering a restricted building, disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, and demonstrating in a Capitol building.
According to court documents, the two men entered the Capitol through an east Rotunda door shortly after 3 p.m., following the breach by rioters. They were identified wearing distinctive attire, with David Tyner sporting a red bandana, goggles, and a black beanie, while Christian Tyner wore a Trump-branded beanie, a red bandana as a facemask, and tinted ski goggles. The FBI report outlines how David Tyner confronted a line of police officers twice as they were pushing people out of the building. After approximately eight minutes inside, the father and son exited the Capitol, removing their bandanas outside.
Confidential sources, who recognized the Tyners from public videos and pictures, provided their identification to the FBI. During an interview with FBI agents on January 27th, David Tyner admitted that he and his son had traveled from Colorado to Washington, D.C., two days prior on a father-son trip. They attended a rally held by then-President Donald Trump, where false claims about the outcome of the presidential election were made. However, David Tyner claimed they were unaware of the events transpiring at the Capitol when they joined the crowd heading in that direction. While he acknowledged his presence in pictures taken inside the Capitol, he denied entering the building.
One photograph included in the FBI document shows Christian Tyner with a bandage wrapped around his head, with blood visible on his face. David Tyner stated that his son was injured when Capitol police attempted to disperse people from the east steps. However, investigators could not find any video evidence to substantiate or dismiss his claims.
The arrests of the Tyners mark at least the 18th and 19th individuals with ties to Colorado who have been apprehended in connection with the Capitol insurrection, based on the FBI database.
This latest development sheds light on the involvement of two individuals from Highlands Ranch in the disturbing events that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. As the legal proceedings progress, more details are likely to emerge, providing a clearer picture of their alleged actions and motivations.
