Fatal Stabbing in Whittier Area: Suspect at Large, Help Sought
Authorities in Whittier, California are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect who allegedly attacked two men, resulting in the fatal stabbing of one victim. The incident occurred in the Whittier area, and the suspect, who remains at large, fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. The stolen vehicle has since been recovered in Chino.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that the body of the deceased victim was discovered on August 29 in a residence on Goodhue Street. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his family.
During a press conference, Sheriff Robert Luna presented security footage showing the suspect entering the victim’s residence on August 28, shortly before the attack took place. The suspect fled the scene minutes later, driving away in the victim’s silver Toyota RAV4, bearing license plate number VPH289. The vehicle was later seen on surveillance footage being driven in Ontario at approximately 3 a.m. on August 29 and then found parked in Chino three hours later.
Law enforcement believes that the murder occurred at around 2:45 p.m. on August 28, based on the surveillance footage. Sheriff Luna appealed to the public for any information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect or sightings of the victim’s vehicle. He requested that anyone who may have seen the vehicle between Whittier and Chino, or in the Ontario area, to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau immediately.
The suspect is described as a man in his thirties, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a dark complexion and short hair, weighing around 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark pants and a tan shirt. Authorities believe that the suspect may be homeless.
In addition to the fatal stabbing, investigators suspect the same assailant of assaulting an elderly man in the 15500 block of Fairview Street, just a few blocks away from the homicide scene and shortly before the murder occurred. The attack was thwarted when the victim’s son intervened, causing the suspect to flee.
